This story tells what happened in an cross-racial familywhich was composed by an ordinary Chinese-American and a white American. The fivefamily members in the story are: father James. Li is a Chinese who was a teacher in a town,because non-Americans have not been able to stay at Harvard to teach. Her mother, Marilyn,was white in the United States and wanted to be a doctor, but she had to give up her dreambecause of marriage and family. The eldest daughter Lydia was much loved by her parentsbut under pressure. His eldest son Nath and her younger daughter Hanna were often ignoredby their parents and had no sense of being.
