11、ation(MimissCREATE)ResearchTeam1eadbyDr.EduardoI.Ortiz-Rivera.Theintegrationoftheoretica1courseswithhandson1aboratoryexperiencespecifica11yinpowere1ectronicsandrenewab1eenergyapp1icationshasbeenthemainfoca1pointfortheMin2CREATEResearchTeam3.Themainobjectiveofthisstrategyisessentia11ytopreparethebest

12、engineeringworkforcetosatisfytherequiredenergyneedsofacountryoraregionwithoutsacrificeitsfuturesustainabi1ity.Thepresented1aboratoryexperienceshaveapotentia1toreachIOOstudentsayearinPowerE1ectronicsbasicundergraduatecourse,60undergraduatestudentsinadvancecoursesinadditiontothosedoingundergraduateres

13、earch.Thisexperiencehaveatremendousimpactinthe1argeamountofE1ectrica1Engineeringstudentsthatgraduateeveryyearfromconcentrationsre1atedtopowere1ectronics(aroundIOOstudentsperyear)atUPRM.AtUPRM,theMingCREATEResearchTeamhasbeenpreparingECEstudentsintheareasofrenewab1eenergyandpowere1ectronicsforpowersy

14、stemapp1icationsbasedonthegeographica1rea1ityofPuertoRico.Toobtainthetheoretica1expertise,theECEstudentsinterestedintheseareas,arerequiredtotakeaseriesofcourseswithfocusonrenewab1eenergyandpowere1ectronics.Figure1i11ustratetherequiredECEcoursesfortheunder1eve1.Eachcourseisdesignedwiththefundamenta1k

16、ENEWAB1EENERGY.Thatswhy,theintegrationofahandson1aboratoryexperiencestothesecoursesisfundamenta1toattractnewstudentsandincreasetheirinteresttodoresearchinengineering.Inthe1ongrun,thesestepsaretheonesthatprovidethebaseforadvancegraduateeducation.Theactivitiesre1atedtohandson1aboratoryexperienceareincorporatedwithothereducationa1componentssuchastheory,simu1ations,andrea1-1ifeengineeringprob1emsofferedinthecourses.Anexamp1eoftheexperimentsforthestude
