IntroductionThedigitizationcha11engeforcu1tura1heritageorganizationshasintensifiedinrecentyears,duringwhichthereha

8、sbeenagrowthindemandfordigita1cu1tura1content(Cosi-matoeta1.2023;Marras2023)exacerbatedbythepandemicperiod(Ko1okythaandRozgo-nyi2023;Radermecker2023;V1assis2023;Zbucheaeta1.2023).Cu1tura1organizationshavebeenstrugg1ingtofindthefinancia1resourcesforcreatingdigita1andphysica1infrastructures,deve1oping

9、digita1ski11s,anddesigningenhancementandmanagementprocessestobothdigitizetheirheritageandpreserve,store,andenhancedigitizedmateria1s(De1aPorteandHiggs2019;PandeyandKumar2023;Preuss2016).TheEuropeanUnionhastriedtoactbothbya11ocatingspecia1fundsforthedigita1transitionandbycreatingspecia1initiativestha

10、tarebasedonunifiedco11aborativepartnershipsanddigita1p1atformsforstoring,managing,andenhancingdigitizedcu1tura1heritage.Inthisframework,oneofthemostsignificantprojectsisthe1aunchoftheEuropeanainitiative:itaimedtocreateadigita1p1atform,ca11edEuropeana,whichcou1dbringtogetherEuropeshugedigitizedcu1tur

11、a1heritage.Theobjectivewastocreateaunifiedmanagementsystemfordigitizedcu1tura1heritagethatcanhe1ptopreserve,enhance,andmakeaccessib1eEuropeandigita1cu1tura1data.Thecasehasbeenana1yzedindepthfromthepointofviewofdatadigitizationprotoco1sanddatamanagement(Be1hieta1.2017;Meghinieta1.2019;Siqueiraeta1.20

12、23);however,ana1ysesofthebusinessmode1oftheproject,anditsimpactonreducingthedigitizationcostsforcu1tura1organizations,aresti111imited(MacriandCristofaro2023).Itis,therefore,ofparticu1arinteresttotrytounderstandhowtheprojectisstructuredandwhatthemechanismsforeasingthefinancia1burdenofthedigitizationo

13、fcu1tura1heritageforcu1tura1organizationsare.MoreoverEuropeanUnion(name1ytheECCCHEuropeanCo11aborativeC1oudforCu1tura1Heritage)isaimingatcreatinganewp1atformforem-poweringcu1tura1heritageorganizationsintheirdigitizationjourney(source:(accessedon20June2023),questioningtheapproachproposedbyEuropeana(B

14、runeteta1.2023)andpartia11yrep1acingit.Itseemsre1evant,therefore,tofurtherref1ectontheEuropeanaproject,focusingonanaspectthatwasratherneg1ectedintheacademic1iteraturesofarbutthatcou1da1sobere1evantinthenew1y-1aunchedinitiative.Meanwhi1e,itisinterestingtoeva1uatehowthereductionincostsiscreatingva1uef

15、orthedifferentstakeho1dersinvo1ved.Specifica11y,thiscontributionaimsatansweringthefo11owingresearchquestions:- HowistheEuropeanaprojectimpactingthereductioninthecostsofdigitizingandmanagingdigitizedcu1tura1heritageinEuropeancu1tura1organizations?- Whatarethe1essonsthatweare1earningfromtheprojectthat

16、canguidethefinancia11ysustainab1emanagementofdigitizedcu1tura1heritageforcu1tura1organizations?Theseresearchquestionsareinvestigatedusingaqua1itativecasestudyana1ysisaccordingtothemode1proposedbyYin(2014)andthecodingofprimarydataaccordingtothemethodo1ogyproposedbyGioiaeta1.(2012).Thiscontributionisdividedintofivemainsections.Afterthisintroduction,thesecondsectionpresentsthetheoretica1referencesoftheresearch,whicharearticu1
